Books of Oh Nine

I love books. That's not a secret. I love that they are new worlds, make us think, introduce us to wonderful characters. I love that when a book is finished pieces of it stay with me and flash into my mind in the days, weeks, (if it's really good) months and years afterwards.

These are the books I loved this year:

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer - about friendship, love, loyalty and joy in the little things even when life is a struggle. Reviewed here.

The Grace Outpouring by Roy Godwin and Dave Roberts - a non-fiction book, stuffed with stories of God moving and working in a retreat centre in Wales. Totally inspirational.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - an old favourite but my sister gave me a beautiful copy for my birthday. It has gold edged pages. I'm a sucker for a pretty book - I am a firm believer of judging books by their covers.

What did you read this year that stayed with you? What made it so special?

  1. Awesome! Thanks for this list, I'll have to go find them to read (or re-read, as in the case of Little Women).
I'm a sucker for pretty books, too.
    And Merry Christmas!

  2. I have just finished 'Unwind' by Neal Shusterman and really enjoyed it, however don't think it would be your 'type' of book since you tend to read classics or at least books of real literary value! Basically its set in a world slightly in the future where abortion has been banned, instead you can choose to 'unwind' your child between the ages of 13-18 and all their parts are used (think organ donors but a lot more controversial!). I know the idea sounds gross but it raises some serious ethical questions about what is classed as a 'soul' and when life begins (at conception or at birth or at a point in between?).

    Blue Eyes xx
